stuff about a "Clinic Access Bill" in New York City

The following is a reprint from a Facebook event, and is followed by the contents from a Facebook message sent to that whole list.

I invite you to attend a co-sponsored CandleLight Vigil at at NYC Council Speaker Christine Quinn's office at 224 West 30th St (between 7th and 8th Ave.) between 5:30PM until 7PM, to rally Against her very unjust and oppressive "Clinic Access Bill" (Intro 826) which is an attack on the Free Speech of pro-life counselors at abortion facilities in NYC. (Our group, EMC FrontLine Pregnancy Centers engages in this work as a large part of our ministry, which is mostly inside in our 10 NYC crisis pregnancy clinics.)

This vigil is co-sponsored by Advocates for Life, Democrats for Life, and New Yorkers for Parental Rights.

There was a very biased, poorly run public "hearing" about the Bill last Tuesday, November 18th, at City Hall, where over 60 pro-lifers attended, but the 40 or so who testified, with the exception of four individuals, were heard by only 1 council member (out of 51!).

This bill is being pushed through by Quinn without regard for tolerance, understanding, dialogue, or a search for the truth, of whether pro-life sidewalk counselors are truly committing harassment or intimidation.

Many abortion facility owners who piled lies upon lies were permitted testimony, non-stop for 2 and one half hours, before all but one council member stayed to hear our side.

Amazingly, No transcript or video of the unheard testimony will be available before the expected December 9th full council vote on the bill. This is democracy?

If you cannot join us would you please read below and take action during business hours to lobby NYC City Council reps?

According to Council Speaker Quinn and her 28 lackey co-sponsors, the bill will make it a higher penalty crime subjecting pro-lifers to increased criminal and civil penalties if they "harass" or "intimidate" an abortion mill patient/client within 15 feet of an abortion facility, and without protections from abuse by abortionist's false accusations.

Amazingly, under the bill, the police could arrest us, whether OR NOT a woman believes she was actually harassed, and would permit the abortion facility to file the complaint, without a patient witness or complaint! No proof or client witnesses are required to prove a case.

Main points against the Clinic Access Bill:
1. CHILLS FREE SPEECH: Would strip away the freedom of speech person-to-person at NYC abortion clinics, preventing literature hand outs, and personal communication, stripping a key first amendment right from the people who want to offer help to women in crisis pregnancy.

2. STRIPS CONSTITUTIONAL LEGAL PROTECTIONS: It gives unfair rights to abortion mills to make bogus claims of harassment without proof, or the need for a personal complaint. An abortion mill has a conflict of interest with the truth. They want to crush all protest, and their evidence is always biased, and often bogus.

3.IT'S A PILING ON OF LAWS FOR SHOW: The bill is an unnecessary law because no pattern of harassment is being observed by police currently at abortion clinics, who are frequently present, and laws already exist prohibiting harassment, under NY State criminal law, and three existing Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances laws have already been passed, in NY City, State and under the federal FACE.

4. THE BILL WILL BE OVERTURNED IN COURT: The Bill flies in the face of an over-turned "NYC aggressive panhandling ban" bill, which the NY State courts disallowed because it did not permit up close and personal interaction.

Friends, tomorrow Tuesday, December 9th, I'm told the NY City Council will take a full Council vote on the dangerous "Clinic Access Bill" #826, and we ask for your prayers to defeat this. Abortion Mayor Mike Bloomberg has said he will sign it into law.

Secondly, please go to http://www.40DaysforLife.com/hope and register for a free online and/or phone teleconference on the future of pro-life outdoor activism and prayer at America's abortion mills.

Listen to leaders from 40 Days for Life talk about plans for the Lenten and fall 2009 campaigns and give result from the 2008 efforts.

The Call takes place from 9 to 10PM EST, tomorrow, Tuesday, December 9th.
