postive of results from the war on terror In his essay, entitled "Even Bill Clinton got it right this time", Charles Krauthammer "lays out 12 things that have resulted from the War on Terror so far," according Michael Hutchison, "and it's an impressive list." Tuesday, July 15, 2003
quoteable - on American ignorance: There was a time when we had so much confidence in the superiority of our way of life that we aggressively taught our values to new immigrants and insisted that they master the basics of American history, the English language and civics before being eligible for citizenship. Today, we're not even teaching history to our own schoolchildren. - Mona Charen, July 15, 2003 Thursday, July 10, 2003
quoteable - on voter turnout: Voter turnout is not a good in itself, no matter what populists and demogogues claim. - Jonah Goldberg, The Corner. July 10, 2003 3:14 Yikes! Susan Smith wants a pen pal! I got notice from Michael Hutchison that convicted child-killer Susan Smith wants a pen-pal. According to the Smoking Gun, Smith "has placed an online personal ad seeking pen pals" who are "'not judgemental'" and whom are willing "to write to a convicted murderer." She gives quite the flattering description of herself and she even likes Mickey Mouse and rainbows. Ironically she likes the beach, something she hopefully won't see. While it is possible that she has reformed and feels remorse for her actions, it doesn't change the reality of what crimes she has comitted nor does it change her responsibility to face the earthly consequences of her actions. Whether she's a former or a current monster her acts were monsterous. What this basically means is that although she may not face spiritual consequences I believe she deserves continued life in prison. This is also the crime that made me wish there was a death penalty in her state, South Carolina. That bit of death-wishing is sad and may seem monsterous in itself, but I only wish that an apropriate response be made to the apropriate crime. Regardless of whatever earthly consequences I measure what has happened has happened. Who knows, perhaps she is doing good for others within prison. What Hutch and I agreed on: "Yeah, killers shouldn't be cute." Looking at her want-ad photo, she sadly does fit that description. Tuesday, July 08, 2003
A-Team movie poster! I read about this at a compatriot's site. I've seen this before and I forgot about it! I love this! It's a movie poster for a fictional A-Team movie that never will be made but should be. Personally I'd rather have Michael Clarke Duncan as B.A. Baracus (formerly played ably by Mr T) than Ving Rhames, but that's my opinion. |
