"Arab pride is at stake here"

It turns out that despite their own misgivings and despite Saddam Hussein there are Arabs who support Saddam's fight itself. Read about it here: http://www.nytimes.com/2003/03/26/international/worldspecial/26ARAB.html?pagewanted=1

Clarification 7/3/2006: They wanted Saddam and his regime to lose (especially because it was neccessary), but they wanted the bastard's cause to put up a good fight against the Americans, simply because of some almost-racist flavor of local pride.

Do not try this at home....

Don't try this at home either...

And not your typical icons in a Muslim nation. THAT is real bravery, I believe.
Wished I'd met the driver.

How often do you see this in YOUR rearview mirror?

Those are just some of my favorites.

There needs to be category for 'Mockumentary' or just revoke his prize

Quasi-famous writer and director Michael Moore won the Academy Award for best Feature Documentary for Bowling For Columbine. There's only one problem with that. That movie is not a documentary. The Academy Rules stipulate that a documentary is a work of nonfiction and that film certainly doesn't fit the bill.

The Ballad of the Human Shields

originally found here

Sung to the tune of "The Ballad of the Green Berets"

By Fred in Monterey:
Carrying signs, they scream and curse:
"Saddam is bad, but America's worse!"
As U.S. forces take the field,
Some fools rush in...as human shields.

Huddling where they think we'll bomb,
Misguided souls only help Saddam.
Iraqi troops take to their heels,
But these fools stay...as human shields.

Smart bombs rain down from the sky.
But we don't want innocents to die.
Precision-guided swords we wield,
Much sharper than...the human shields.

War is all hell, how well we know.
But evil falls to the well-aimed blow.
All soldiers cry from the grief they feel,
Tears more sincere...than the human shields.

To speak one's mind is freedom's right.
To win that right, brave warriors died.
They lie unmarked in battlefields.
They gave their lives...for the human shields.

This song is dedicated to all who work constructively for freedom, justice,
and peace, with prayers for everyone in harm's way.

National Guardsbot

The leader of the Autobots has joined the National Guard! http://archive.wkyc.com/news/story.aspx?storyid=3828
Optimus Prime is heading out to the Middle East with his guard unit on Wednesday to provide fire protection for airfields under combat. "On Sunday, we were announced as the best firefighting unit in the Army National Guard in the entire country," said Prime. "That was a big moment for us." Prime took his name from the leader of the Autobots Transformers, which were popular toys and a children's cartoon in the 1980s. He legally changed his name on his 30th birthday and now it's on everything from his driver's license, to his military ID, to his uniform. "They razzed me for three months to no end," said Prime. "They really dug into me about it." Prime says the toy actually filled a void in his life when it came out. "My dad passed away the year before and I didn't have anybody really around, so I really latched onto him when I was a kid," he said.

I don't blame them for razzing him and I wonder how this will affect him into the future.
