let's recognize....

IRAQ THE MODEL

Niiiiiice.

Official Exclusion by False Powers

The Politburo Diktat has created a map of the Blogosphere. Given that only a fortunate few know that this site exists, it is logical to not see Apologies Demanded, recognized under any title, on that map! Still, for the sake of the needed publicity, and the neccessary recognition of my genius, I demand to find Apologia on that map.

I would prefer to find it around Germany, fine warrior nation of my ancestors (as opposed to great wuss nation of my European cousins).

the 'help the foreigner' spam-scam

Some time ago, the Blue Spider found this in his e-mail inbox:
Good Day,

With warm heart I offer my friendship, and my greetings, and I
hope this letter meets you in good time. It will be surprising to
you to receive this proposal from me since you do not know me
personally. However, I am sincerely seeking your confidence in
this transaction, which I propose with my free mind and as a
person of integrity.

My name is Mr.Marcus Moyo, the first son of Bila Moyo, one of
the most popular black farmer from Zimbabwe, murdered in the land
dispute in my country. As led by my instinct, I decided to contact
you through email, after searching for contacts via the internet,
as it is the only means I can contact anybody since I am cutting
off ties with Zimbabwe for security and safety reasons. However,I
apologize if this is not acceptable to you.

The purpose of this letter is to seek your most needed assistance
in a business venture. Due to the the land and political problems
in Zimbabwe, as a result of President Robert Mugabe's introduction
of new Land Act Reform wholly affecting the rich white farmers and
the few rich black farmers, and his desire to hold on to power for
life, my father forsaw the danger that came in Zimbabwe. Before he
was murdered, he withdrew all of our business foreign accounts in
dollars and sold up our shares in major companies. We then went to
Johannesburg, South Africa to deposit the sum of US$10.5 million
Ten million, Five Hundred thousand US dollars), in a private
security company. This money was deposited with this Private
Security company for safety and security reasons, and was to be
used for the purchase of land, new machines and chemicals
establishment of new farms in Botswana and Swaziland.

President Mugabe's support for the violent Zimbabwean war veterans
and some lunatics in the society, led to the murder of my beloved
father and other innocent lives. I was continually threatened to
abandon my inheritance from my father after he was murdered. I
resited for a while, but when the danger became unbearable, and I
survived two murder attempts, I fled Zimbabwe to South Africa
where I was arrested and detained for eight(8 good month)in jail.I
fled south Africa for The Netherlands with the help of the present
prison command chief officer in Charge(P.C.C.O)

I am currently staying in the Netherlands where I am seeking
political asylum. In fact my decision to come here to seek asylum,
is because the security company from South Africa, has a branch
here, and they have moved the deposit from their office in
Johannesburg here. I need to transfer this money to an account
and invest part of the money. Since the law of Netherlands
prohibits a refugee (asylum seeker) to open any bank account or to
be involved in any financial transaction, this is why I am
seeking a genuine and reliable partner, whose account this money
can be transferred, hence this proposal to you.You have to
understand that this decision taken by me entrusts my future
in your hands, as a result of the safe keeping of this money. If
you accept to assist me, all I want you to do for me, is to assist
with arrangements to claim the deposit from the security company
from their office here in The Netherlands, as it has now been
transfered from Johannesburg, South Africa to their branch here.
The company will be legally informed of you representing me.

For your assistance, I have two options for you. Firstly you can
choose to have 20% of the money for your assistance, and helping
me open an account for the money to be deposited here, or you can
go into partnership with me for the proper profitable investment
of the money in your country. Whichever the option you want,
please do notify me in your reply.

I have also mapped out 1%($105,000,00) of this money for all kinds
of expenses that come our way in the process of this transaction,
and 4% ($420,000,00) for Charity donation. If you prefer to accept
the 20% for assisting with opening an account, then 75%will be
left in the account here for me.

Please, I want you to maintain the absolute secrecy for the
purpose of this transaction.

I look forward to your reply and co-operation, and I thank you
in advance as I anticipate your co-operation.

Thanks and God bless.

Sincerely,
Marcus Moyo
Another one I found read like this:
ENGR.FIBIAN DURU

AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS.

URGENT
BUSINESS PROPOSAL.
Dear Sir,
I am an Engineer with the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and, also
a member of the Contract Review committee. Presently, I'm on a special
diplomatic duty in the Nigeria foreign office in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. A
contract for the construction and laying of oil pipelines network from
Warri-Port-Harcourt-Kaduna has been awarded to a local firm and, this contract
was over invoiced to the tune of Eleven Million United States Dollars (US$11
Million).

The over invoicing was a deal by my committee to benefit from the project, and
now the local contractor have been fully paid but, the over invoiced amount is
still floating in one of the offshore banks of Central Bank of Nigeria in
Canada. We now desire to transfer this money which is presently in a suspense
account of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) into any overseas account which we
expect you to provide for us, if you are capable and able.
For providing, the account where we shall remit the money, you will be entitled to
35% of the money,60% will be for myself and my partners, the remaining 5% will be
set aside to settle all expenses incurred by both parties.
I would require the following;
1.Bank name and Address
2.Name of Beneficiary
3.Company Name and Address
4.Account Number.
5.Confidential Telephone and Fax number of Beneficiary.

The above information would be used to make formal applications to the
appropriate government parastatals such as the Federal Ministry of Finance (FMF),
Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and the Central Bank of Nigeria
(CBN) as a matter of procedure for the release of the money and onward transfer
to the nominated account you would provide. In as much as , we are doing a deal,
we would like to comply with all laid down procedures for transfer and contract
of this nature. It does not matter whether or not your company did this contract
or not. The assumption is that your company was awarded the major contract and
subcontracted it out to the local company. We have strong and reliable
connections and contacts at the Apex Bank and the Federal Ministry of Finance All
we need is a trust worthy foreign partner to assist us in this mutual/beneficial
deal.

Therefore, when the business is successfully concluded,we shall through our same
connections withdraw all documents used from all the concerned Government
Ministries for 100%security.We are civil servants and we do not want this
opportunity to miss us, as opportunity loss can never be regained
Please contact me immediately through my e-mail address, whether or not you are
interested in this deal. If you are not,it will enable me scout for another
foreign partner to carry out this deal. But where you are interested, send the
required document aforementioned herein without delay,as time is of great essence
in this deal.
I await your anticipated co-operation and response.
Best Regards
ENGR.FIBIAN DURU.

Just how stupid do these people think I am?

I'm the Blue Spider; it's a handle I use for commenting on lighter topics in various forums. It's fun to say that's who I am and know one cares otherwise. Obviously though, there's no one out there really named "the Blue Spider" so it's an idiotic concept to send a serious business note to an address identified as such. Second of all, anyone who would actually be named "the Blue Spider" isn't the kind of person likely to be trustworthy to handle such financial transactions. It's obviously not that kind of person. Anyone who doesn't actually compute this as they send out these letters is obviously sending out random spam to random addresses. I'm not that stupid.

I received in my public account the following:

The fact is that this type of scam is so common, and has been publicized in the news, that this kind of "cry for help" is an obvious scam. The genuinity is especially questionable given the similarity in format of all these letters. Yet the scam continues; the spam piles up in my inbox; these people think I'm stupid. They think many people are stupid; the problem is that some people do become victims of these scams. These people are stupid.... or they weren't thinking.

Who types letters in all-CAPS anyway?

Feel free to e-mail me if you actually have a thought. Keep in mind that the Blue Spider account is generally comic book-themed and I don't really pursue political debate through that venue.

this is OUTRAGEOUS

It's difficult to not be angered, outraged, pissed off at this stuff.

- Pistol-packing Senior Chases Off Mugger, Gets Charged for Unlicensed Gun
An old man is beaten up and robbed in an elevator by a twenty-something mugger. A successful defensive response of pulling out his gun found the 80-year-old-man arrested for having an unliscensed fire-arm! To add another insult to the injuries endured his firearm is confiscated, his apartment searched and another gun taken. The harmless old man has now become officially defenseless and we see the pricipal of liscenses has now taken priority over the protection of innocents. This is America, to boot!

- Drug Raid At S.C. High School
A violent and shocking drug raid was perpetrated by armed police with K-9 units at Stratford High School in Goose Creek, S.C..
Police came into the school with guns at the ready, ordered all students to lie on the floor and then handcuffed anyone who apparently didn't comply quickly enough.
The Principal defends the raid because of a large amount of drug activity. It still doesn't seem like a justifiable action to treat children like grown-up, malicious, confirmed criminal thugs ("Surveillance video obtained by CBS Affiliate WCSC in Charleston shows the police waving their guns and searching lockers as students lie flat on their stomachs or sides"). While the Principal defends the measures,
The parents of some students who were subjected to the sweep disagree.
"I was just upset knowing they had guns put to their head and a K9 was barking at them and about to bite somebody. It was awful," parent Latonia Simmons told WCSC.
Is there any excuse for treating children like adults for suspected criminal behavior?

- Bishop's anti-gay comments spark legal investigation
Cheshire Police, in the UK, are investigating a man because he said some things that some people didn't like. The Bishop is getting his privacy assaulted and his reputation tarnished because a group like the Lesbian and Gay Christian Movement are making complaints. Pressure from groups with relativistic morals are causing a man to investigated for thought crimes. That's just lovely. I hope behavior like this stays in the UK but frankly it'd better if it didn't exist at all.

Two of the three above events occurred in this country! Unabashed leftism, brutality, negligence of justice, moral relativity; I hate it.

code scholar and Blog Rolling.

My education in this rough code, grows only by stinking inches. It took me awhile in the long run to isolate alignments on a section by section scale yet eventually I found exactly what I wanted, that little insert, in a few minutes. I've implemented it and thus found the visual/aesthetic cue to set up a more dedicated Blog Roll.

There are problems remaining. I don't know how ugly the list is aesthetically, especially when compared to the different alignments above and below. I'm also wondering if I should put the Roll in a different order, and if so, what?

An article dated January 30th, 2003 calledThe US can go to war whenever it likes for its own reasons, and all the UN can do is pass more worthless paper, written by James Lileks, discusses how much UN approval of any our actions is worth. What's their word against ours?

Is Clinton just being an ass?

In WorldNetDaily: Clinton: I warned Bush about bin Laden threat, 42nd American President Bill Clinton claims to have warned President #43 how great a threat Osama Bin Laden is. I still ask why Clinton didn't take care of this "great" threat. Actually I just claim that Clinton screwed up because he didn't take care of that living problem.
While he may have warned his successor, various reports suggest Clinton dropped the ball, himself.
bin Laden's group did attack American installations before and the Clinton Administration's responses weren't adequate to prevent the tragedies that occurred in the current Bush Administration.

WorldNetDaily: With half his brain tied behind his back

Ann Coulter burns the notion that Rush Limbaugh is a hypocrite and burns Evan Thomas as well. My favorite line:
Thomas also made the astute observation that "Rush Limbaugh has always had far more followers than friends." Needless to say, this floored those of us who were shocked to discover that Rush does not have 20 million friends.
I read many columns, but I am not Rush Limbaugh's friend. If he came over for a drink, we'd be acquaintances.

Americans killed in Gaza, does anyone care?

Kathryn Jean Lopez covered this and Jonah Goldberg commented on it. Why is it that in articles like this (Four dead as Gaza blast hits U.S. convoy

some inherent and usually overlooked moral implications of Star Wars

I love this article, "Star Wars" despots vs. "Star Trek" populists and there are a few spots that touch me the most.

on page 3:

There are the horrors involved in truly thinking about Star Wars. The various implications regarding Darth Vader are some of the scariest. We take a lot of it as is because it is "great drama" but if we truly thought about it would we think the same way?
--few protest the apotheosis of Darth Vader -- nee Anakin Skywalker -- in "Return of the Jedi."

To put it in perspective, let's imagine that the United States and its allies managed to capture Adolf Hitler at the end of the Second World War, putting him on trial for war crimes. The prosecution spends months listing all the horrors done at his behest. Then it is the turn of Hitler's defense attorney, who rises and utters just one sentence:

"But, your honors ... Adolf did save the life of his own son!"

Gasp! The prosecutors blanch in chagrin. "We didn't know that! Of course all charges should be dismissed at once!"

The allies then throw a big parade for Hitler, down the avenues of Nuremberg.

It may sound silly, but that's exactly the lesson taught by "Return of the Jedi," wherein Darth Vader is forgiven all his sins, because he saved the life of his own son.

This is ridiculous, but this is what we do. In the final frames, in the final scene we see Anakin Skywalker, cleansed and forgiven, standing beside both Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda, all angels already proven in our state of mind.

Worse, we know, especially if we were truly paying attention that Darth Vader is some sort of Hitler-figure. Indeed, he's much worse.
How many of us have argued late at night over the philosophical conundrum -- "Would you go back in time and kill Hitler as a boy, if given a chance?" It's a genuine moral puzzler, with many possible ethical answers. Still, most people, however they ultimately respond, would admit being tempted to say yes, if only to save millions of Hitler's victims.

And yet, in "The Phantom Menace," Lucas wants us to gush with warm feelings toward a cute blond little boy who will later grow up to murder the population of Earth many times over? While we're at it, why not bring out the Hitler family album, so we may croon over pictures of adorable little Adolf and marvel over his childhood exploits! He, too, was innocent till he turned to the "dark side," so by all means let us adore him.

A good deal of us are engineered to do this for the whole of the first movie in the prequel trilogy, and we're all expected to. (I didn't for I really hate the child actor stuff. I don't even like sitcoms revolving around this kind of crud). In the second movie, written and released after this article was published portrays the teenage Darth Vader as more-or-less a straight protaginist throughout most of the movie. We're meant to still feel for him throughout most of the movie. He's central on the DVD cover and a good deal of the conflict revolves around him, primarily as a hero of some sort. When and where he does have his moral pitfalls it's portrayed as teenage caveats (which makes the romance throughout the movie, and the resulting marriage seem odd and actually illogical) and not entirely symptoms of his destined immersion into the Dark Side of the Force and his descent into villainy.

We're meant to run with this guy. George Lucas wants it to be tragic, like old Greek tales. He's wrote it wrong then. It shouldn't be like Greek tales if it's supposed to end in the original trilogy. As it all works.... "The apotheosis of a mass murderer is exactly what it seems. We should find it chilling." Why are we cheering for Hitler times twelve?

not totally invasive

An article in the Washington Post reports that one clause in the Patriot Act has not been used. It's a library clause. At least on librarian seems unncessarily sanctimonious:
Emily Sheketoff, executive director of (the American Library Association)'s Washington office, said Ashcroft's decision "is a big win for librarians and a bigger win for the American public. He's being forced to give out information that he doesn't want to give out."

Lovely. It's so wonderful one of the people whose job includes keep secrets isn't keeping one. What a ridiculous sentiment.

quoteable - on American ignorance:

There was a time when we had so much confidence in the superiority of our way of life that we aggressively taught our values to new immigrants and insisted that they master the basics of American history, the English language and civics before being eligible for citizenship. Today, we're not even teaching history to our own schoolchildren.

Yikes! Susan Smith wants a pen pal!

I got notice from Michael Hutchison that convicted child-killer Susan Smith wants a pen-pal. According to the Smoking Gun, Smith "has placed an online personal ad seeking pen pals" who are "'not judgemental'" and whom are willing "to write to a convicted murderer." She gives quite the flattering description of herself and she even likes Mickey Mouse and rainbows. Ironically she likes the beach, something she hopefully won't see.

While it is possible that she has reformed and feels remorse for her actions, it doesn't change the reality of what crimes she has comitted nor does it change her responsibility to face the earthly consequences of her actions. Whether she's a former or a current monster her acts were monsterous. What this basically means is that although she may not face spiritual consequences I believe she deserves continued life in prison.

This is also the crime that made me wish there was a death penalty in her state, South Carolina. That bit of death-wishing is sad and may seem monsterous in itself, but I only wish that an apropriate response be made to the apropriate crime. Regardless of whatever earthly consequences I measure what has happened has happened. Who knows, perhaps she is doing good for others within prison.

What Hutch and I agreed on: "Yeah, killers shouldn't be cute." Looking at her want-ad photo, she sadly does fit that description.

A-Team movie poster!

I read about this at a compatriot's site. I've seen this before and I forgot about it! I love this! It's a movie poster for a fictional A-Team movie that never will be made but should be. Personally I'd rather have Michael Clarke Duncan as B.A. Baracus (formerly played ably by Mr T) than Ving Rhames, but that's my opinion.

something I heard lately....

God appears before a man and says that, as the most humble and devoted man of faith, he will be granted one request.

The man says, "I would like a bridge to the moon so that I can drive up there in my car."

God snorts and says, "Are you kidding? The moon orbits the Earth, so a fixed bridge won't work. And what would support it? Plus, you have the gravitational problems, the lack of oxygen... you have to ask for something workable!"

The man says, "Sorry, it was the first thing that came to me. How about peace in the Middle East?"

God considers this and says, "So, two-lane or four-lane?"

I was informed by Micheal Hutchison

This week’s Economist has a good survey of the Nordic region that includes this old, and accurate, joke about the Finns and their dislike of unnecessary chatter:

“An old Finnish joke has two men sitting in a sauna, drinking beer. “Cheers!” says one, raising his glass. An hour and a few refills later, he raises his glass again and repeats: “Cheers!” Another hour on, and he breaks the silence yet again: “Cheers!”

The second man is speechless with anger, but eventually brings himself to reply: “are we here to drink or to talk?”

Michael Jackson deserves pain and punishment. Why is still allowed to "be a parent" to his children is beyond me. These are links to articles regarding the Michael Jackson saga/fiasco/story.

Curiouser and curiouser ...
Ah, the saga told in a larger scale...

This is something that should be basic knowledge. According to the Bible, according to doctrinal Christian belief, man is evil at his heart and center and core. Any man who believes otherwise is probably not a Christian. The verse in question is Jeremiah 17:9. Iraqi-Americans Rejoice at Saddam Defeat
The best line: "'Don't kill them," said Hadi Al-Baghdadi, a 42-year-old Iraqi living in Dearborn, referring to Saddam and members of the ruling Baath party. 'Put them in cages in a zoo. And then we can use the admissions fees to rebuild Iraq.'"

Iraqis — With American Help — Topple Statue of Saddam in Baghdad
"It was a historic moment: the people of Iraq conveying to the world that they are finally free of the brutal dictator who has maintained a vise grip on them for nearly 30 years.
"As the 40-foot statue fell, some threw shoes and slippers at it -- a gross insult in the Arab world.
"A group of Iraqi men later dragged the head of the statue down the street, taking turns riding on the gigantic head as others slapped it with their shoes."

Keep going!

As I expected, Saddam's head is now gone.... off of ebay, that is.
Steal from Michael Hutchison! Do it without fear. He's unarmed; what's he going to do about it?
Guess what's on Ebay?!? Now it's your opportunity to own Saddam's head!

Honestly, this is it! The payoff begins now. Marines Help Topple Statue; Residents Loot Baghdad

The Iraqi people, free from tyranny are expressing their own dissatisfaction and reclaiming their own lives. We pulled down the statues and people around Baghdad are defacing Saddam's image without fear of retribution. As I'm sure that some Iraqis oppose Saddam only out of fear of the United States forces, I'm sure that even more of them are doing so despite the possiblity of violent Saddam loyalists, who have acted violently against them. There also those who support our continued presence but with future limitations. It is Iraq, after all, not one of our territories.

Guns, controls, victims, and prison sentences... some social injustice overseas

I found two articles from Front Page Magazine regarding gun control, police procedure, and some misprioritizing in the British legal system. Both articles were published in January. One, British Man Denied Parole, Ruled "A Threat to Burglars", chronicles how a man defended his person and his home from burglars and was punished for it and the other, When Governments Ban Guns, is a general description of the status of gun control in Great Britain and the consequences from such a system. Basically a place where it is against the law to have guns is also a place where the lawless have guns and use them.
I'd like to emphasize that the British police are unwilling to investigate threats to property or burglary in general and that a man's own ability to defend himself is limited by his own laws in that bloody country overseas. And their cops are paid more than ours while protecting less.
Somehow having universal healthcare doesn't sound like it's worth it.

U.S. surrounds key buildings in Baghdad

This quote says it all: "U.S. forces barreled into the heart of Baghdad with a dramatic show of force Monday and met pockets of fierce resistance." Well, it almost says it all. But this does count as progress; we're close to utter victory. Unfortunately we still take casualties and Saddam has yet to be found either alive or dead. There are several bits of good news. "British officials said troops found a body in southern Iraq that they believed was the notorious Iraqi general known as 'Chemical Ali.'" His death has yet to actually be confirmed according to British Defense Secretary Geoff Hoon, although there is strong evidence. "Al-Majid, a cousin of Saddam, gained the nickname 'Chemical Ali' for ordering a poison gas attack that killed thousands of Kurds in 1988... His death should show the people of southern Iraq 'that the regime is finished,' said Group Capt. Al Lockwood, spokesman for British forces."
Another highly amusing bit of information, somewhat ironically: the remains of the Iraqi old establishment are in denial. "Iraqi Information Minister Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf, standing on the roof of Baghdad's Palestine Hotel, denied his city had been invaded. Sirens could be heard as he spoke and clouds of dust blew past - remnants of a sandstorm and smoke from oil fires set by the Iraqis to obscure targets.
"'They are sick in their minds. They say they brought 65 tanks into center of city. I say to you this talk is not true,' al-Sahhaf said. 'There is no presence of American infidels in the city of Baghdad, at all.'" Riiiight.

Unfortunately it's not close to over.
U.S. Finds Possible Chemical Weapons Site
We are taking further steps to remove an Iraqi threat and we've reached some satisfaction. Suspected material was discovered "in a compound near the Iraqi city of Hindiyah, about 60 miles south of Baghdad." Scientists and experts are testing samples to be certain. I'm pleased about this. "Finding and eliminating Saddam Hussein's chemical and biological weapons is a goal of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, and finding such weapons of mass destruction could mute international criticism of the war."

Hear that? Shut up, peaceniks.

"Arab pride is at stake here"

It turns out that despite their own misgivings and despite Saddam Hussein there are Arabs who support Saddam's fight itself. Read about it here: http://www.nytimes.com/2003/03/26/international/worldspecial/26ARAB.html?pagewanted=1

Clarification 7/3/2006: They wanted Saddam and his regime to lose (especially because it was neccessary), but they wanted the bastard's cause to put up a good fight against the Americans, simply because of some almost-racist flavor of local pride.

The Ballad of the Human Shields

originally found here

Sung to the tune of "The Ballad of the Green Berets"

By Fred in Monterey:
Carrying signs, they scream and curse:
"Saddam is bad, but America's worse!"
As U.S. forces take the field,
Some fools rush in...as human shields.

Huddling where they think we'll bomb,
Misguided souls only help Saddam.
Iraqi troops take to their heels,
But these fools stay...as human shields.

Smart bombs rain down from the sky.
But we don't want innocents to die.
Precision-guided swords we wield,
Much sharper than...the human shields.

War is all hell, how well we know.
But evil falls to the well-aimed blow.
All soldiers cry from the grief they feel,
Tears more sincere...than the human shields.

To speak one's mind is freedom's right.
To win that right, brave warriors died.
They lie unmarked in battlefields.
They gave their lives...for the human shields.

This song is dedicated to all who work constructively for freedom, justice,
and peace, with prayers for everyone in harm's way.

National Guardsbot

The leader of the Autobots has joined the National Guard! http://archive.wkyc.com/news/story.aspx?storyid=3828
Optimus Prime is heading out to the Middle East with his guard unit on Wednesday to provide fire protection for airfields under combat. "On Sunday, we were announced as the best firefighting unit in the Army National Guard in the entire country," said Prime. "That was a big moment for us." Prime took his name from the leader of the Autobots Transformers, which were popular toys and a children's cartoon in the 1980s. He legally changed his name on his 30th birthday and now it's on everything from his driver's license, to his military ID, to his uniform. "They razzed me for three months to no end," said Prime. "They really dug into me about it." Prime says the toy actually filled a void in his life when it came out. "My dad passed away the year before and I didn't have anybody really around, so I really latched onto him when I was a kid," he said.

I don't blame them for razzing him and I wonder how this will affect him into the future.

The reason why France and Germany are pulling this treacherous thing with Iraq. Click here and then scroll down to the third paragraph of the section "For Want of a Nail". As I suspected since forever the European Union is confederation against us. What I learn now is the link: Germany and Iraq want to use the Iraq issue as the defining issue to unite Europe with Chirac at the head. Hmmm.

I am an authority.

The universe rejoices. I recieved a phone call yesterday from a reporter from the daily leftist journal the State News. She was going through old articles and discovered that I was a member of the MSU College Republicans. She then called me to get my views on the Iraq situation, the United Nations' (under-) involvement, the University President's forum on war with Iraq, and gather a small profile on my political views. Basically I'm being used as an informational research. I said a lot of intelligent and true things to her. So I was quoted in an article in the State News. This is not the first time, of course.

What an interesting turn of events. I'm sitting in my room doing my best to be productive when the phone rings and my roommate Ben answers the phone. He's asked a question and says that "yes, he's here" and then tells me "Chris, you have a phone call. It's a girl!" Naturally this made me wonder. Women rarely call our dorm room. It is even rarer that I get such a phone call. I said something to the effect of "that's new" and picked up his poor handset before switching to another phone.

I acknowledge who I am and then I miss her introduction the first time. She asked good questions and was patient for an answer. For my part I was calm, patient and intent on answering these questions in the most articulate and accurate way possible. The entire point, of course, was to give accurate information and spread a viewpoint that could be seen as valid and intelligent. I wanted to be give a good representative statement. I realized that if I am being used as a source of information I better get it right. I tried to be as balanced in my diction as possible, in order to maintain a low risk of invalidation. Response to my statements were positive. Naturally I was quoted, as Ianticipated. Naturally my quote wasn't as long as I had hoped for nor was it what I really wanted focused on. But I did say those words and they are, for the most part, true.

This is the obligatory testing post. Does the weblog work? There's only one way to find out.
